The computer says No!
Gold star for the 'Australian Flying' magazine this week. Three informative articles provided which, although slightly depressing, at least show that there are some folks trying to fight their way toward minor reform in some areas.
TWG - “The TWG met in November last year under the supervision of Principal Medical Officer Kate Manderson, making several recommendations to CASA through the Aviation Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP), which, if accepted, could see modifications to most of the restrictions applied operations under the Class 5 self-declared medical”
AMROBA - “The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has opened public consultation on a proposal to repeal a number of legacy airworthiness directives affecting general aviation aircraft, as part of a broader push to modernise regulation.”
The Oz - “A report published in The Australian on the weekend has revealed that Goodman Group is in the process of selling Moorabbin Airport.”
I don't know why, but these articles take me back decades to my days as a hanger rat. Crack of dawn; open the hanger doors, drag out half a dozen aircraft; refuel 'em as per the booking sheet, hang up the 'joy flight' sign; make up the banner for the days towing. Stroll down the briefing office, chat with the Met and briefing officers, say G'day to the firemen – toddle off back for morning tea and await the return of lesson aircraft. Busy all day, pausing only to watch any 'big iron' lining up between the dozen in the queue. End of day pick up the banner, return aircraft to hanger, take the 'snag sheet' through to the engineering fellahin; sweep up and head off to the aeroclub bar. That place would be heaving; couple of Ales, chats with those all involved one way or another; listen to the tall tales, seek advice and insight. Perfect end to a bloody good day. Last time I visited a secondary aerodrome; at 07:30 (ish) you could have shot a gun in any direction and hit sweet sod all. Progress? I wonder.

Aye well; there are sixteen (70x 18 x 70 mm) mortise and tenon joints to be made for a garden bench; keep me busy enough today. Best I crack on.
